What is adhika Masa? Also known as Molo maash in bengali

Many are confused why devi paksha hasnt started yet. To clear it you all have to understand, What is adhika Masa? Also known as Molo maash in bengali. To know it you have to understand basic hindu calenders.

Basically Hindu Calender are of two types

1) Solar Calender - which is based on Sankranta/ Sankranti. Sankranti has came from the word Sankraman of Surya (Sun). In some regions month start from the day of Sankranti, in some region a month ends on the day of Sankranti. Most of the calender in this world is basically based on the earth's movement around the sun. So, Every solar calender basically has 365.25 days. Example Bengali, Tamil , odiya, etc calenders

2) lunar calender - which is based on the Moon's movement around the Earth. Where tithis are the postion of moon as per its movement around the earth, on each earth's day. 15 such tithis makes one paksha. Paksha is again divided into two types
     i) Shukla Paksha- Pratipada to Purnima.
ii) Krishna Paksha -Pratipada to Amavasya.
Now two pakshas ( Shukla and Krishna) make one Lunar Month. Here we will get another twist because in hindu calender Lunar calender is divided into two types
  a) amanta - in amanta calender months start  from pratipada tithi of Shukla paksha and Ends on Amavasya. ( in this calender a month starts with Shukla  paksha and  ends with Krishna Paksha )
 b) purnimanta- in purnimanta calender months start from pratipada tithi of Krishna paksha and ends on Purnima. ( in this calender month starts with Krishna and ends with Shukla Paksha).
Ok, Now we should remember a lunar Year has 360 tithis but only 354 days in average per year.

Hence like Solar calender we have leap day after every four year. But as per Lunar Calender we have a Leap Month after every 32 months 16 days  in average ( as sometimes it becomes 28 months and sometimes 35 months too)   . So after 32 months 16 day ( consider it in average) an extra month is introduced ( to fill up the gap of 30 tithis between solar and lunar month). So that hindu Lunar calender can keep the same pace with hindu Solar calender. This extra month or Leap month is known as Adhika Masa or Molo maash.

This year in Ashwin we are having this Adhika Mas/ Molo maash in english we can call it a leap month as per lunar calender. Now Durga puja takes place as per tithis of Lunar calender not Solar Calender. So adhika ashwina is exactly not the actual ashwin month as per lunar calender. It is just like a leap day of february that comes after every four years. After Mahalaya amavasya tithi yesterday from today the leap month has started. Which is Adhika ashwina and it will end on the next amavasya. So after that the main ashwina shukla paksha of Lunar calender will start. And as per shastras devi paksha is another name of ashwina Shukla paksha . So what is now going on is actually Shukla paksha of adhika ashwina month and not the main ashwina month. That is why devi paksha has not started yet.

Now i want to clear another confusion, positioning of ashwina based on amanta and purnimanta
